Harmonics currents are caused by equipment with non-linear characteristics, such as transformers operated in saturation, energy-saving lamps, frequency converters, and power electronics. They load the grid with additional currents and can affect or even destroy equipment. These grid distortions can be detected and documented using power quality analyzers.
The web server on the measurement device provides a wide range of data in a clearly structured format. Users do not need to install any software on their PC, a standard web browser is sufficient. Users enter the IP address of the measurement device in the URL window of the browser and the homepage of the measurement device appears on the screen. In addition to the modern homepage, apps are also available for an extended range of functions.
Jasic® graphical programming language allows users to add their own functions to a UMG measurement device. Up to seven freely definable user programs can run in parallel, e.g. monitoring of processes or messages when defined limit values are reached. In addition to graphical programming, the user is free to program the code directly in JASIC.
Events are short-term voltage increases or dips, overcurrents or short-term interruptions (e.g. due to bird strikes or short circuits). UMG measurement devices can reliably record and process events from 20 ms and transients from 50 μs duration. This allows the causes of power quality fluctuations to be identified and analyzed.
Modbus RTU devices that are connected to the master device as slaves can be very easily integrated into an Ethernet architecture via the Ethernet Modbus gateway. For devices with an identical file format and matching function codes, this is possible directly via the Modbus RTU interface.
Many UMG measurement devices have their own memory with typical record ranges of up to 2 years. Recording is freely configurable. A 128 MByte memory can store around 5,000,000 memory values, a 256 MByte memory can store around 10,000,000 memory values.
The UMG 604-PRO power analyzer is far more than just a multi-functional measurement device. Furthermore, it is also suitable as a transient recorder, meter (kWh, kvarh), for optimizing load peaks, analyzing harmonics, PLC, monitoring the state, logging results and collecting data. It has two digital inputs and outputs as well as a temperature measurement input.
